3 Rituals that Keep Strategy Front and Center

Don't 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 scale your headcount. Scale your ability to execute.

Realize that they have an 11, 12, 15, 20 year old company that is being run like a Ma and Pub shop, even though it has 500 employees. That very often is not a great place to work because it's hard to get anything done.

You very often have ad hoc status updates and you are often firefighting and being reactive instead of being proactive. And now you want to increase clarity, energy and capability and you do that clarity first by installing monthly business reviews where you're inviting your most important cross functional leaders, your chief marketing officer, your chief product officer, your chief technology officer, whoever they are, they come together to discuss those OKRs. And then you're creating clarity in weekly team check-ins. So in your weekly Monday Calibrate, you're making sure that you're still working on the most important aspects and that you are driving attention into the areas that matter most.

But then also you need to drive energy. We do that in our town hall meetings where we are celebrating success company wide, and in our Friday celebrates where we are celebrating progress within our team and creating momentum with our team. And then it's important to drive up capability too. And you do that by ensuring that managers manage their individual team members in the right way in their one-on-ones. You're also managing team members in performance check-ins. And so these rituals help you to really make sure that those 500 employees or more aren't just excited ones, but stay excited across the year.
